Learn To Skate (3+ years)

A 30 minute non-parented class for children ages 3 and up who have not had any significant time on skates. It is designed to introduce children to the ice and help them become comfortable. This program teaches children the basics of how to get up when they fall down, how to move forward, basic backward movement and how to stop. Music, toys and games are used to help children feel ready to take the next step.

 

Fun Skate

A 1 hour lesson designed for those children ages 5 and up who can work independently within a group lesson. A comprehensive series of balance, control and agility skills designed to prepare skaters for all ice sports requiring skates, as well as recreational skating.

 

Dance Skate

The level to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skills, free skate and artistic skating. 

Skating starts first Wednesday after Thanksgiving. Skating days are on Mondays and Wednesdays. 

  • Full Learn To Skate: Monday & Wednesday - 4:00-4:30 pm : $200

  • Half Learn to Skate: Wednesday - 4:00-4:30 pm : $150

  • Full Fun Skate: Monday & Wednesday - 4:30-5:30 pm : $200

  • Half Fun Skate: Wednesday - 4:30-5:30 pm : $150

  • Full Dance Skate: Monday & Wednesday - 5:30-6:30 pm: $200

  • Half Dance Skate: Wednesday - 5:30-6:30 pm: $150

A themed carnival is held in March to showcase to the public what our skaters have learned at the end of the season. 

  • $200/family Fundraising Requirement Bond. Please bring a post dated cheque for March 2024. The fundraising requirement post dated cheque will be required on the first day of skating. Once a member has fundraised for the Spruce View Skating Club then the post dated cheque will be returned to the member. Fundraising includes working our mandatory casino fundraiser (every three years with the next one slotted for 2025), 50/50 sales, bottle drives, Ag Society fundraisers, etc.
     

  • 5 Hour Volunteer Requirement/family. Hours can be reported to the secretary. Volunteering includes on ice volunteering, mandatory carnival production participation, bottle drives, Ag Society fundraisers, etc. 
     

  • Spruce View & District Agriculture Society Membership Fees: $10/family optional membership fee. This optional membership fee gives you discounted ice rental price and more!

Equipment Required

  • Skates (with laces recommended) 

  • CSA approved helmet required for all skaters up to Dance Skate. (No goalie helmets)

  • Snow Pants

  • Winter Jacket/Warm Jacket

  • Waterproof Mittens

Grievances

Any issues in regard to the operation of the Spruce View Skating Club may be made in writing to the Executive and will be dealt with on an individual basis.

Public Skating is available Friday nights at 4:00 p.m. for Ag Society members. Helmets are required.
